Fellow SPPA Students,
I am looking for your support in the upcoming MAPA elections. I feel that I have the qualifications to represent you and your interests. As an undergrad I was the Minister of Education for my course union and student representative on the department management committee. At Carleton I have continued my involvement in student governance as the current ISE representative for the MAPA society. In this role I have acted as the student representative on the cyclical review committee and participated in all monthly meetings where staff, faculty and student representatives discuss issues important to SPPA. As a result of these experiences I have developed relationships with both faculty and staff; while gaining an understanding of the issues that matter to students. Additionally, I have been able to bring issues to the attention of the administration and would like the opportunity to continue this in a more expanded role as President of MAPA. I believe that my experience and involvement in the school over the course of this academic year make me the best candidate for the job.
Sincerely,
Dave

Hi fellow SPPA students!
My name is Julie Lancaster and I’m running for MAPA President. I’m in the Public Management stream and have spent this year working as a Research Assistant and volunteering with COMPASS, the new Public Management networking group. However, I’m looking to get more involved and think that I would be able to make a real contribution to the MAPA Steering Committee!
While I’m comfortable in a leadership position, I am also very much so a team player with a very approachable personality. As President, I would use my finance background to work with the VP Finance in developing an agenda that would effectively allocate MAPA’s limited budget to achieve what matters most to SPPA students. I would promote an open and visible MAPA society that encourages everyone to get involved. I also think MAPA could benefit from having a fresh face enter negotiations with the faculty and I would employ my strong communication skills in both listening to students’ thoughts and concerns and in working with faculty members. I know that the resources available to students during this transition to the new building is of particular importance to many first year students but would love to hear what issues others are talking about! Please do not hesitate to come say hi when you see me around the River Building or email me at jlancast@connect.carleton.ca!
Thanks,
Julie
